Welcome to Common Ground Playground
The Common Ground Playground at Makino Park is an all-inclusive playground designed to encourage children and adults of all abilities to play together helping to build confidence, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, and motor skills. It encourages acceptance and understanding of differences by enabling everyone to play side-by-side, whether in a wheelchair, using an assistive device, standing with leg braces, or standing without help. By experiencing fun and joy through unstructured play, the Common Ground Playground promotes awareness, understanding, and acceptance of people with disabilities.
The playground has many play zones which include specially designed equipment to promote social interaction and sensory experiences by challenging physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development through meditative, interactive, exploratory, and imaginative play. These areas include musical instruments, a fully accessible play structure for wheelchairs and mobility devices, platform swing, an accessible zip line, a quiet space, and so much more. Fully enclosed with fencing, the playground allows for parents to enjoy their time at the park without worrying about their children running off.
The playground is part of Makino Park, a 35-acre park designed with inclusivity in mind and includes accessible walkways, parking, restrooms, and the FC Mini Pitch soccer field.
